Early morning, after the rainstorm, IL 5th Congressman Mike Quigley hosted a Pre-Pride breakfast in the parking lot of Ann Sather’s restaurant. I had an opportunity to discuss with his staff issues of green jobs, the environment, the global climate crisis, and the needed effort to keep Mark Kirk out of the US Senate and elect instead the Democratic progressive Alexi Giannoulias. I was pleased that staff noted this goal has the highest priority with the Congressman. On the hot button issue of Asian carp penetration into Lake Calumet, staff noted that the Congressman does not support lock closure because four other points of carp penetration into the Great Lakes have been identified. As we know, the Democratic Governor and US Senators from neighboring MI disagree.

Staff of Lakeview Rep. Sara Feigenholtz , Lauren Beth Gash’s former colleague in the Iegislature, were present., along with staff and friends of several Chicago area alderman. Their presence recall the recent primary in IL 5th to fill the US House seat vacated by Rahm Emanuel where Quigley and Feigenholtz, opposed each other. I am sure many IL Tenth voters had the same difficulty in choosing between two outstanding candidates like Julie Hamos and Dan Seals as I did in IL 5th between Quigley and Feigenholtz.
Among the Alderman present was the successor Joe Moreno for Manuel Flores in Ward 1 now with the Quinn Administration. Interestingly, the Alderman in 2008 hosted a fundraiser for Dan’s Seals earlier 2008 candidacy in IL 10th

We had a discussion on the status of the green jobs program and proposed green industrial park in Ward 1 initiated by his predecessor. The Alderman voiced continued support for this initiative. http://www.myfoxchicago.com/dpp/news/illinois/FirstWard I remember earlier passing on this information to the staff of Congressional Candidate Dan Seals in IL 10th and suggesting potential adaptation to the IL 10th communities of North Chicago and Waukegan.
I am quite aware of the importance Congresswoman Schakowsky, IL 9th, and Quigley, IL 5th, also place in this type of initiative. to assist transform our fossil fuel based economy into one focused on substainability, green technology, and renewable energy.
