Tenth Dems Community Connection 5th Annual Poetry and Prose Contest and Awards Night

When: Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 7:00 – 9:00pm

Where: Ramada Waukegan/Gurnee, 200 N. Green Bay Road, Waukegan, IL 60085

What: Join us at the 5th Annual Poetry and Prose Contest Awards Night! High school students from Zion, Waukegan and North Chicago are invited to submit original works of poetry and prose on the topic of “Hope” to Tenth Dems Community Connection’s 5th annual writing contest. Submissions will be judged by a panel of published local authors.  Prizes of $100, $75 and $50 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded in poetry and prose categories. Submissions are now due Tuesday, March 24th.

Voices for Illinois Children: Illinois Kids Count 2015 Symposium, “Confronting Poverty, Creating Opportunities”

What: Voices for Illinois Children presents a panel discussion of child poverty and its adverse effects on children’s school readiness, academic achievement, physical health, social-emotional development, as well as social and economic outcomes in adulthood.  Keynote speaker is economist Jared Bernstein, a senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and former chief economist and economic adviser to Vice President Joseph Biden.

“48 Hours” to Air Segment about Local Murder Case Investigated by Lake County Coroner

When: Saturday, February 28, 2015, from 9 pm – 10 pm

Where: CBS (Channel 2 locally)

What: The case of a 2009 murder in Lincolnshire will be discussed. The impact of the autopsy, as well as the roles played by coroner, prosecutor, expert witnesses and jury, will be included.

Lisa Madigan Moderates Panel on Lake County Anti-Bullying and Anti-Cyber Bullying Initiative

When: Monday, April 20, 2015 at 6:00pm

Where: Highland Park Country Club, 1201 Park Avenue West, Highland Park, IL

What: The Lake County Leadership Alliance sponsors Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan moderating a panel of educators, Internet safety specialists, and community leaders to discuss a Lake County Anti-Bullying and Anti-Cyber Bullying Initiative.  This panel is a response to the United States Conference of Mayors’ (USCM) call last July for awareness, prevention and intervention against bullying.
