“Civil War Stories: Our Residents in the Civil War” is an exhibit that examines local residents who served in the theater of battle and played a role in the war. See the display now through Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the Historical Society Museum, 326 Central Avenue, Highland Park, Illinois. It is free to military families and Historical Society Members, $5 suggested donation for all others. Museum hours are Wednesday – Friday from 1:00 – 4:00 pm and Sundays from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Please call 847-432-7090 for special appointments.

What: The 69th Annual IVI-IPO Independents’ Day Dinner will feature Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Emcee Jerry Morrison and the 2013 award winners.

Events: Common Cause, Coalition to Overturn Citizens United Celebrate with Jim Hightower Sharing His Wisdom on the Current Political System

When: Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 2:00 pm

Where: Embassy Suites O’Hare, 5500 N. River Rd., Rosemont

What: Illinois is the 14th state to pass a resolution asking Congress to Overturn Citizens United and Get Money Out of Politics. In celebration, Common Cause and the Coalition to Overturn Citizens United are honored to present Jim Hightower, political storyteller and commentator, who will talk about how money took control of our political system and how we can get it out.

The event is free but donations are gladly accepted. A private lunch with Jim before the event is $65. Parking is $13 per day at the Convention Center across the street. Tenth Congressional District Democrats is a co-host of the event with coalition members Common Cause, Public Citizen, Illinois PIRG, Move to Amend, Progressive Democrats of Chicago and NE Illinois, RepresentUs, MoveOn, Democracy in Action, Americans for Democratic Action, Coffee Party, Illinois Ballot Integrity Project and Community Cares.

Events: A Celebration of 100 Years of Women’s Suffrage in Illinois

When: Wednesday, June 26, 2013 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Where: Glencoe Historical Society, 375 Park Ave., Glencoe

What: Women gained the right to vote in Illinois on June 26, 1913. Please join the Glencoe League of Women Voters and the Glencoe Historical Society for this event. Eileen Vorbach from WomenLore will be portraying Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a leading figure in the woman’s rights and suffrage movements.
