As a woman in her forties I am not too young to be concerned about Social Security. I’m simply not that far away from retirement anymore. And having learned of Republican Congressional candidate Robert Dold’s plan to privatize social security, this only solidifies my staunch support of Democrat Dan Seals.

Mr. Seals is endorsed by the non-partisan National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare – and from this source (the NCPSSM), I’ve learned just how damaging and risky privatizing Social Security can be. No system is perfect, but our current system does work. It has for 75 years and will continue to do so for decades, despite talk of the danger it may be in.
Like any system, of course it needs tending and maintenance and fixing – but not dismantling. Not putting it at the whim of the stock market. There are many investment opportunities for all who wish to take part in them, but Social Security is not and should not be one of them. Social Security is an insurance policy and a profound promise to our senior citizens. And I believe Mr. Seals will do all he can to help Social Security continue to keep that promise.

Democratic Congressional Candidate Dan Seals was joined by Max Richtman, Executive Vice President of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare (NCPSSM), at several senior centers in Illinois’ 10th District to discuss with voters Seals’ strong support for critical programs. Richtman presented Seals with a pair of red boxing gloves in recognition of Seals’ commitment to fight for seniors in Washington.
Richtman joined Seals at the Park Place Senior Center in Waukegan, the Patty Turner Center in Deerfield, and Sedgebrook Retirement Living in Lincolnshire, IL to strongly endorse his candidacy and hear seniors’ concerns.
This week, Seals also earned the endorsement of the Alliance for Retired Americans.
“I am very proud to receive the endorsements of both the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare and the Alliance for Retired Americans,” said Seals. “I will always protect the rights and benefits of seniors while opposing any plans to privatize Social Security, which would put retirement savings on the risky stock market and add trillions to a national debt that is already out of control.”
Seals has committed to preserving and strengthening Social Security while opposing any plan to privatize the system. He also supports current plans to close the “doughnut hole” in Medicare Part D, because too many seniors cannot afford the skyrocketing costs of prescriptions.
Seals’ opponent’s plan for Social Security includes raising the retirement age and privatizing retirement savings. Dold’s plan is nearly identical to the Bush plan and would add more than $2.2 trillion to the national debt. Read More »
